CHICAGO - December 1950 - Anthony Accardo, the reputed kingpin of a nationwide crime syndicate, reads the subpoena from the Senate Crime Investigating Committee that his Attorney George Callaghan holds up. Accardo surrendered voluntary at the Chicago U.S. Marshall's office.
The subpoena had called for the Big Tuna to come before the crime committee which wanted to question Accardo, after a witness disclosed, that Accardo and Jake Guzik were partners in a gambling enterprise that netted them $278,667, in 1949.
Guzik, another former associate of the late gang chief Al Capone, is still a fugitive of the committee subpoena.
