An array of photos that show former Luciano/Genovese Family boss Frank Costello and his beloved wife Lauretta enjoying life, relaxing on the terrace and tending to the backyard of their home in Sands Point, Long Island, New York on May 27, 1950.

These photos would be taken around the exact time the infamous "Kefauver Hearings" which started to take place from May 1950-May 1951, this was a large scale investigation into organized crime across the U.S., Frank would obviously be in their crosshairs.

After a few fidgety and nervous days of intense sparring with Kefauver committee lawyers he managed to avoid answering any major incriminating questions. Frank took a couple days out claiming he was ill with a sore throat, but upon his return the committee would decide to keep their foot on Franks neck and started to ask him questions about his net worth among other things, he refused to answer. This would eventually lead him to be convicted of contempt of the Senate and he was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

The most notorious power struggles in the history of organized crime as Vito Genovese and Frank Costello—two of the most powerful mafia bosses in America—battle for control of New York's underground. Starting with Frank Costello's glamorous rise as a “gentleman gangster” who transformed the Luciano family into a multi-million-dollar empire, this story takes a dark turn as his old ally Vito Genovese returns from exile with ruthless ambitions of his own. From Genovese's violent youth on the streets of New York to his years alongside the legendary Lucky Luciano, his hunger for power reshaped the American mafia. Watch as this intense rivalry unfolds in a series of assassination attempts, betrayals, and shocking acts that culminated in the infamous Appalachian meeting—a gathering of mafia bosses that revealed the shocking extent of organized crime in America and forced the FBI to confront the mafia like never before. Costello's quiet influence in politics and Genovese’s violent methods clashed as never before, creating ripple effects through the mob world. The FBI's crackdown, fueled by a nation’s outrage, shifted the balance of power and altered the mafia forever. This documentary reveals how these larger-than-life mobsters clashed in a high-stakes game of power, control, and survival, shaping organized crime as we know it and leaving a legacy that echoes in both criminal and law enforcement circles to this day.
