On August 29,1988 Bonanno family hitmen Tommy 'Karate' Pitera and Vincent 'Kojak' Giattino, ambushed Gambino family associate Wilfred 'Willie Boy' Johnson, 52, who was killed in a fusillade as he walked to his car in the flatlands section of Brooklyn. 'Willie Boy' was shot at least 6 times in the head, twice in the back, and once in each thigh, a police spokesman said.

In 1985 during a trial that Johnson was in with John Gotti a New York federal prosecutor revealed 'Willie Boys' FBI informant status since 1966, in an attempt to get him to testify against Gotti and enter the witness protection program and he refused. And you know what happens to ratz in that life, they don't live long.
Although no weapons were recovered from the scene of the shooting at least 19 shell casings, from a .380 caliber automatic handgun, were found at the murder scene. On hearing the first gunshot Johnson tried to run across Royce street, but only got a few feet before being hit. Pitera reportedly did the hit as a favor to Gotti.
Also when the hitmen left the scene they dropped Jax like caltrops in the street to prevent the possibility of the pursuit by the police. The assassins then escaped.
