MOB TALK: Powerful captain of the old Luciano Family Giuseppe "Joe Adonis" Doto

Powerful captain of the old Luciano Family Giuseppe "Joe Adonis" Doto, pictured in his much later years following his deportation to Italy in 1956.

In the January of 1956, Adonis would leave his beloved family and home behind in New Jersey after a lost battle against the US governments justice department, they claimed Adonis was an illegal immigrant at a hearing he attended whilst incarcerated on illegal gambling charges.

That would only be the start of a downward spiral for the twilight mobster. Because in June 1971, Adonis was forced out of his luxurious apartment in the center of Milan to a town called Serra de' Conti, a small town near the sea. Adonis was one of a 115 suspected mobsters involved in the assassination of Pietro Scaglione, a public prosecutor in Palermo, Sicily. Later that year Italian police apprehended Adonis then transported him to a decrepit shack in the hills of Ancona, this was to carry out interrogation about the assassination. During the lengthy and intense questioning and some abusive treatment, Adonis suffered a heart attack. He was taken to hospital but sadly passed away several days later on November 26, 1971.

The US government allowed Adonis's family to bring his remains back home for dignified burial. He was laid to rest in Madonna Cemetery in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
